TO THE LAND OF TURTLEBACK, WHERE THE WATER IS BLUE,
THE SAND IS BETWEEN YOUR TOES AND THE STONES ARE WELL ABOVE AVERAGE.
I am Liz Hawes, an artist and self taught jeweler living in beautiful Leelanau County, Michigan near Traverse City. My company, Turtleback Studios was named in honor of the prized Petoskey Stone that is found in Northern Michigan, and no where else in the world. My jewelry most often includes natural elements such as local Beach Stone, Petoskey Stone, Fossils, Leland Blue or Wildly Exotic stones from foreign lands. Organic ingredients and a hands-on approach result in one-of-a-kind pieces full of individual personality.
Because I am able to do the lapidary work as well as the jewelry work, I am better able to control the creative process for each piece from beginning to end. This approach, in combination with my natural creative talents, results in unique stone jewelry that celebrates and showcases nature’s mystical beauty.
